Britnie Britton

Britnie is a graduate student pursuing a master's in sustainability solutions and public policy. Previously, she worked as a graduate services assistant for the Healthy Urban Environment (HUE)/Cool Kids Program. During summer 2022, she was part of a team that created the Heat Vulnerability Map with institutional design processes and principles for Arizona. The project involved collaboration with organizations such as HUE, Decision Theater (DT), and city partners. The prominent role was ensuring equity-informed heat data, macro-scale analysis of urban heat, proper allocation of possible resources, and Earth observations from multiple satellites to identify regional heat vulnerability clusters. Then examine cool infrastructure solutions from community, city, and university projects in Maricopa County for resilience against extreme heat. 

Similarly, Britnie's passion for research stems from environmental justice and supporting emergency preparedness and resilience in low-income neighborhoods. Her long-term career goals entail discovering solutions on how investing in sustainable infrastructure, policy, and technologies can combat systemic/systematic oppression and heal generational trauma and injustice amongst people of color.
